About the event
Many of us grew up in homes where talking about our feelings was not something we did. We were often told to be strong, to keep our struggles to ourselves, and to move on quietly. But as parents today, we see our children facing a world that is even more complex, and we know in our hearts that they need more from us.
How we can nurture emotional intelligence and compassion in our children—qualities that are beautifully encouraged in the Qur’an and Sunnah. As we reflect on our own experiences growing up, we can learn how to create a safe space where our children feel heard, understood, and supported.
Typical Response from our Young Muslims
“I don't want to talk about it! I just want to be left alone when I’m upset.”
“Why do I have to be the one to say sorry or be kind when others aren’t nice to me?”
"It's embarrassing to talk about emotions or cry, especially in front of others. Isn’t it better to just keep it inside?”
“I don’t see how talking about feelings or being patient will help me when things go wrong at school or with friends.”
